BAT Fiji Powers Up with $1.2M Solar Initiative

British American Tobacco Fiji has entered into a contract with Vision Energy Solutions for a $1.2 million solar energy initiative in Nabua and Nadi. This project involves the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s Nabua Factory and the Leaf Division in Nadi, creating an 812kW power system capable of producing 880,000 kWh of electricity annually for these locations.

Sam Dormor, general manager of BAT Fiji, described the solar initiative as a significant step in their sustainability efforts. He mentioned that over the past two years, BAT Fiji has made considerable investments aimed at combating climate change.

Dormor highlighted that this collaboration with Vision Energy Solutions is projected to cut electricity consumption by about 60% and decrease carbon emissions by roughly 32% at their Nabua site. This endeavor aligns with BAT Fiji’s goals of sourcing 50% of its energy from renewable sources and halving its carbon emissions by the year 2030.

The installation process commenced earlier this week, with a completion target of January 2025. Sanjesh Prasad, CEO of Vision Investments, expressed pride in partnering with BAT Fiji on the solar project. He emphasized the strength and capability of their local team, which has successfully executed large-scale solar installations nationwide.

Prasad noted that Vision Energy Solutions oversees all aspects of the project, from supply and installation to commissioning and support, ensuring comprehensive after-sales service. The company is dedicated to advancing renewable energy for Fijian enterprises while fostering positive environmental impacts through sustainable practices and community engagement.
