BAT Fiji Powers Up with $1.2M Solar Initiative!

British American Tobacco Fiji has inked a deal with Vision Energy Solutions for a solar project valued at $1.2 million, which will be implemented in Nabua and Nadi.

The agreement includes the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s Nabua Factory and the Leaf Division in Nadi, with an anticipated power system capacity of 812kW. This system is projected to produce approximately 880,000 kWh of electricity annually for both locations.

Sam Dormor, general manager of BAT Fiji, stated that this solar initiative represents a significant step forward in the company’s sustainability efforts. He noted that over the past two years, BAT Fiji has made substantial advancements and investments to further its sustainability agenda, demonstrating its dedication to combatting climate change.

Dormor emphasized that the partnership with Vision Energy Solutions is expected to lead to a reduction in electricity consumption by approximately 60% and a decrease in carbon emissions by about 32% at the Nabua facility. This initiative aligns with the company’s goal of achieving a 50% use of renewable energy and a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by the year 2030.

Installation of the solar panels began earlier this week and is expected to be finalized by January 2025.

Vision Investments CEO Sanjesh Prasad expressed pride in collaborating with BAT Fiji on this solar project. He highlighted the capabilities of their local team that has successfully managed large-scale solar projects across the nation.

Prasad mentioned that Vision Energy Solutions oversees every aspect of the project internally, from supply and installation to commissioning and servicing, ensuring comprehensive after-sales support. He reiterated the company’s commitment to offering renewable energy solutions for Fijian businesses while fostering a positive environmental impact through collaboration, sustainable practices, and community engagement.
