BAT Fiji Lights Up with $1.2M Solar Deal!

British American Tobacco (BAT) Fiji has partnered with Vision Energy Solutions (VES) in a $1.2 million contract to implement a solar project aimed at significantly reducing the company’s electricity consumption and carbon footprint.

Sam Dormor, general manager of BAT Fiji, expressed that this initiative is a significant step in their sustainability goals. He noted that the collaboration with Vision Energy Solutions is expected to decrease electricity usage by around 60 percent and cut carbon emissions by approximately 32 percent at their Nabua site. This effort aligns with BAT’s objective to source 50 percent of its energy from renewable sources and achieve a 50 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2030.

Sanjesh Prasad, CEO of Vision Investments, highlighted that Vision Energy Solutions has been active for six years, responding to the increasing demand for renewable energy options in Fiji through solar technology. Prasad stated, “We are proud to have a talented local team that has grown from strength to strength by successfully delivering large-scale solar projects across the country.”

The project will involve the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s Nabua Factory and the Leaf Division in Nadi. A power system of 812kW is set to be installed, which will generate around 880,000 kWh of electricity annually for both sites. The installation process commenced last week and is anticipated to be completed by January of the following year.
