British American Tobacco (BAT) Fiji has entered into a contract for a solar project valued at $1.2 million with Vision Energy Solutions. Sam Dormor, the general manager of BAT Fiji, stated that this project is a significant step in the company’s sustainability agenda.
Over the past two years, BAT Fiji has made remarkable advancements and investments in its sustainability efforts, demonstrating a strong commitment to tackling climate change. Dormor highlighted that the partnership with Vision Energy Solutions is projected to lead to a reduction in electricity consumption by around 60 percent and a decrease in carbon emissions by approximately 32 percent at the Nabua site. This initiative supports the company’s goal of achieving 50 percent renewable energy and halving its carbon emissions by the year 2030.
Sanjesh Prasad, CEO of Vision Investments, mentioned that Vision Energy Solutions was founded six years ago to address the increasing demand for renewable energy solutions in Fiji. Prasad expressed pride in their skilled local team, which has successfully carried out large-scale solar projects nationwide. The team manages all aspects of the project internally, ensuring comprehensive support from supply and installation to servicing.
In their announcement, BAT Fiji detailed that the project entails the installation of solar panels at both their Nabua factory and their leaf division in Nadi. The project includes an 812 kW power system capable of producing 880,000 kWh of electricity annually for these two locations. The solar installation is anticipated to be completed by January 2025.
