BAT Fiji Goes Green with $1.2M Solar Project

British American Tobacco Fiji has entered into a contract with Vision Energy Solutions for a solar project valued at $1.2 million, to be implemented in Nabua and Nadi.

The agreement entails the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s facilities in Nabua and the Leaf Division in Nadi, which will create an 812kW power system capable of producing approximately 880,000 kWh of electricity annually for both locations.

Sam Dormor, general manager of BAT Fiji, stated that this solar initiative represents a key step towards the company’s sustainability goals.

“In the past two years, BAT Fiji has made significant strides and investments in pursuing our sustainability agenda, reflecting our dedication to combating climate change,” he noted.

Dormor highlighted that the collaboration with Vision Energy Solutions is projected to lead to a 60% reduction in electricity usage and a 32% decrease in carbon emissions at the Nabua site.

“This aligns with our objective to achieve a 50% share of renewable energy and a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030,” he added.

Installation of the solar panels began earlier this week and is expected to be completed by January 2025.

Sanjesh Prasad, CEO of Vision Investments, expressed pride in partnering with BAT Fiji for this project.

“We are pleased to have a skilled local team that has successfully executed large-scale solar ventures throughout the nation,” Prasad stated.

“Our in-house local experts handle everything from supply to installation, commissioning, and servicing, ensuring complete after-sales support.”

Vision Energy Solutions is committed to advancing renewable energy for Fijian businesses while fostering positive environmental impacts through collaboration, sustainable practices, and community engagement.
