British American Tobacco Fiji has entered into a contract with Vision Energy Solutions for a solar project valued at $1.2 million, which will take place in Nabua and Nadi.

This agreement will involve the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s Nabua Factory and Leaf Division in Nadi, featuring an 812kW power system anticipated to produce approximately 880,000 kWh of electricity annually for both locations.

Sam Dormor, general manager of BAT Fiji, stated that this solar initiative is a key step in the company’s sustainability efforts. He noted that BAT Fiji has made notable advancements and investments over the past two years to further its sustainability agenda as part of its commitment to combating climate change.

Dormor emphasized that the collaboration with Vision Energy Solutions is expected to lower energy consumption by around 60% and cut carbon emissions by about 32% at the Nabua site. This project supports BAT Fiji’s goal of achieving a 50% share of renewable energy and halving its carbon emissions by 2030.

Installation of the solar panels began earlier this week, with completion projected for January 2025.

Sanjesh Prasad, CEO of Vision Investments, expressed pride in collaborating with BAT Fiji on this solar initiative. He highlighted the strength and capability of their local team, which has successfully managed large-scale solar projects throughout the country.

Prasad noted that Vision Energy Solutions strives to deliver renewable energy solutions for Fijian businesses while fostering a positive environmental impact through sustainable practices and community partnerships.
