BAT Fiji Goes Green: $1.2 Million Solar Initiative Unveiled

British American Tobacco Fiji has entered into a partnership with Vision Energy Solutions to implement a solar initiative costing $1.2 million in Nabua and Nadi.

The agreement will involve the installation of solar panels at BAT Fiji’s Nabua Factory and the Leaf Division in Nadi, providing an 812kW power system capable of producing 880,000 kWh of electricity for both locations each year.

Sam Dormor, the general manager of BAT Fiji, indicated that the solar project represents a significant step forward in their sustainability objectives.

“Over the past two years, BAT Fiji has made notable advancements and investments in our sustainability agenda, showing our dedication to combating climate change,” he remarked.

“This collaboration with Vision Energy Solutions is set to decrease our electricity consumption by around 60% and lower our carbon emissions by about 32% at our Nabua site. This is in line with our goal of achieving 50% renewable energy usage and halving our carbon emissions by the year 2030.”

Installation work began earlier this week, and completion is anticipated by January 2025.

Sanjesh Prasad, CEO of Vision Investments, expressed pride in partnering with BAT Fiji for the solar project.

“Our talented local team has consistently excelled in delivering large-scale solar initiatives throughout the country,” he stated.

“Our local experts handle all aspects of the project, from supply and installation to commissioning and servicing, ensuring comprehensive after-sales support.

“At Vision Energy Solutions, we are committed to providing renewable energy for Fijian businesses while making a positive environmental impact through cooperation, sustainable methods, and community engagement.”
