Fijian Drua halfback Philip Baselala is determined to secure a top three position in his team as he looks ahead to the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific season. At just 20 years old, Baselala currently holds the fourth spot in the Drua squad, facing competition from Frank Lomani, Simione Kuruvoli, and Peni Matawalu.

“This is one of my primary goals for next season—to get more game time,” Baselala expressed. He also indicated that his teammates Frank and Simi have motivated him to strive for excellence, noting that the friendly competition among them will enhance their fitness and ultimately help each of them secure a spot in the starting lineup.

This year has been challenging for Baselala, as he managed to play only two Super Rugby matches before suffering a knee injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Additionally, he faced wrist surgery due to another injury. However, Baselala is optimistic after completing his rehabilitation and receiving medical clearance to play again.

With his dedication and resilience, Baselala’s commitment to improving his game indicates a promising future. His journey highlights not only his determination to overcome obstacles but also the supportive environment within his team, which can foster growth and competitiveness.

This upcoming season could be an exciting one for the young player, especially as he aims to make his mark in a challenging position, and fans will be eager to see him back on the field.
