Fijian Drua halfback Philip Baselala is determined to secure a top three position within the team as he prepares for the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific season. At just 20 years old, Baselala is currently positioned fourth in the squad, facing competition from experienced players such as Frank Lomani, Simione Kuruvoli, and Peni Matawalu.

“My main target for next season is to gain more game time,” Baselala stated. He appreciates the healthy rivalry within the squad, noting that both Frank and Simi motivate him to excel, which in turn enhances their overall fitness and prospects for the starting lineup.

Despite only playing two matches in the 2023 Super Rugby season, Baselala faced setbacks due to a knee injury that sidelined him for the entire year, followed by a wrist injury that required surgery. However, he is optimistic about his recovery, saying, “I was able to complete my rehab and I finally got the green light to play again.”

Baselala’s proactive mindset and commitment to his recovery indicate a bright future ahead as he strives for increased playing time and a more significant contribution to the Drua team. His determination to improve in the face of adversity can inspire many young athletes facing similar challenges.

This article highlights the resilience of a talented young player who is focused on overcoming personal obstacles to achieve his goals, contributing positively to the dynamics of his team. As he gears up for the new season, fans can look forward to witnessing his growth and performance on the field.
