Fijian Drua scrum-half Philip Baselala is enthusiastic about his ambitions for the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific season, aiming for a top-three position within the team. At just 20 years old, he currently holds the fourth spot in the Drua squad, competing against established players like Frank Lomani, Simione Kuruvoli, and Peni Matawalu.
Baselala expressed, “One of my main targets for next season is to get more game time.” He acknowledged that the competition among teammates has been beneficial, stating that Lomani and Kuruvoli have urged him to push his limits, which would not only enhance their individual fitness but also increase their chances of securing a starting position.
This year, Baselala participated in two Super Rugby matches before facing setbacks from a knee injury that sidelined him for the entire season. Additionally, he underwent wrist surgery, further complicating his recovery. Fortunately, he has successfully completed his rehabilitation and has received medical clearance to return to play.
These challenges highlight Baselala’s resilience and determination to make an impactful return to the field. His commitment to improving and competing for a starting role demonstrates his promising future in rugby and the potential contributions he can make to the Fijian Drua team.
With a fresh start and renewed motivation, fans can look forward to seeing Baselala’s development and performance in the upcoming season, fostering hope for both his career and the team’s success.
