Fijian Drua halfback Philip Baselala is eager to secure a top three position in the squad as he prepares for the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific season. At just 20 years old, Baselala currently ranks fourth among the Drua’s halfbacks, competing with seasoned players Frank Lomani, Simione Kuruvoli, and Peni Matawalu.

“My main goal for next season is to gain more game time,” Baselala stated. He acknowledged the friendly rivalry among teammates, saying, “Frank and Simi encouraged me to challenge each other because it benefits us all by enhancing our fitness levels and pushing us to earn our spots in the starting line-up.”

This year, Baselala appeared in two Super Rugby matches before facing significant setbacks due to injuries. A knee injury sidelined him for the entire season, and he also had to undergo surgery for a wrist injury. However, he has successfully completed his rehabilitation and is thrilled to have received the green light to return to play.

With his determination and the support of his teammates, Baselala’s aspirations for the next season are bolstered, reflecting a promising outlook for both him and the Drua team.

In summary, Philip Baselala is focused on improving his position within the Fijian Drua squad after overcoming injuries. His commitment to training and teamwork highlights the competitive spirit that can lead to growth and success for both him personally and the team in the upcoming season.
