Fijian Drua half-back Philip Baselala is eager to secure a spot in the top three positions for the upcoming season. At just 20 years old, Baselala currently ranks fourth in the Drua squad, facing competition from seasoned players Frank Lomani, Simione Kuruvoli, and Peni Matawalu.

“One of my main goals for the next season in Super Rugby Pacific is to gain more game time,” Baselala shared. He acknowledges the healthy competition among his peers, stating, “Frank and Simi encouraged me to challenge each other, as it helps improve our fitness and increases our chances of securing a starting spot.”

In 2023, Baselala made two appearances in the Super Rugby matches. However, his season was significantly impacted by a knee injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the year, in addition to a wrist injury that required surgical intervention. Now, with his rehabilitation complete, he has received the green light to return to play.

This renewed focus and determination from Baselala marks a hopeful turnaround as he looks forward to regaining his place on the team. His ambition to elevate his game and contribute positively to the Drua highlights the resilience and competitive spirit that are essential in professional sports. As he prepares for the upcoming season, fans can look forward to seeing his progress and dedication on the field.
