Fijian Drua halfback Philip Baselala is gearing up for a significant push to secure a top three position in the squad. At just 20 years old, Baselala currently ranks fourth among the halfbacks competing for starting spots, alongside Frank Lomani, Simione Kuruvoli, and Peni Matawalu.

“This is one of my main goals for the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific season — to increase my game time,” Baselala stated. He highlighted the supportive competitiveness within the team, noting that Lomani and Kuruvoli motivate him to challenge himself, which not only aids personal improvement but also enhances overall team fitness.

Baselala’s journey in the current season has been tumultuous. He participated in two Super Rugby matches but faced setbacks due to a knee injury that sidelined him for the entire season. Adding to his challenges, he underwent wrist surgery earlier this year.

Fortunately, he has successfully completed his rehabilitation and is eager to return to the field. “I finally got the green light to play again,” he expressed, showing enthusiasm for the upcoming season.

In summary, Baselala is determined to elevate his standing in the team through hard work and resilience after overcoming injuries. His optimistic approach and commitment are commendable, and with the right mindset, he could make significant strides in the upcoming season.

The emphasis on teamwork and personal development at such a young age provides a hopeful outlook for his future in rugby, suggesting that he is not only focused on individual success but also on contributing to his team’s performance.
