Liam Barry, the former assistant coach of the All Blacks 7s team, has been named the Head Coach of the Australian men’s 7s team. After spending six years working alongside former New Zealand 7s coach Clark Laidlaw, Barry expressed his enthusiasm for this new role.

In his statement, he highlighted the success that the team achieved during the previous Olympic cycle in Paris, stating, “It’s a great base to start from and it’s a credit to John and the management with what they’ve done in the last cycle.” Barry emphasized his intention not to overhaul the existing framework but to enhance and build upon the solid foundation already established. “The players are fit, fast, and skilful, and I’m looking forward to working with them,” he added.

Barry will take the reins of the Australian squad in his debut tournament at the SVNS World Series opener in Dubai, marking the beginning of an exciting chapter for both him and the team.

This new appointment presents an optimistic outlook for the Australian men’s 7s team, with Barry’s experience and positive vision set to propel them forward in international rugby. His approach of enhancing the current team’s strengths rather than starting from scratch can foster continuity and confidence among the players, potentially leading to more significant achievements in the future.
