The Barracuda Swim Club triumphed at the Fiji Short Course Age Groups Nationals, achieving an impressive haul of 72 Gold, 53 Silver, and 35 Bronze medals over the weekend. Tritons Swim Club finished in second place, followed closely by Great White Sharks in third.

Fiji Swimming president Lucy Erasito expressed her appreciation for the coaches’ commitment to the athletes and the ongoing support from parents. “The athletes have been training tirelessly over the past few months, diligently balancing their academics with their preparation. Their dedication has truly been remarkable,” Erasito remarked.

The competition saw the setting of eight Age Group National records and six Fiji Open records. Notable achievements included the performances of Grace Khelan, Hansel McCaig, Nigel Simpson, and Samuel Yalimaiwai, who all set new records at the National Championships.

Grace Khelan distinguished herself by breaking four records: two national records in the 11-12 age category for the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke, as well as two Fiji short course open records in those same events.

Nigel Simpson also made waves by breaking two Fiji Short Course Open records in the 8 and Under category, specifically for the 50m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke. Meanwhile, Samuel Yalimaiwai established a new National record in the 17 & Over category for the 50m Breaststroke.

Hansel McCaig made an extraordinary contribution by breaking seven records in the 17 & Over age group, which included five national records in the 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 100m individual medley, and 50m backstroke, along with two Fiji open short course records in the 50m freestyle and 100m individual medley.

Special thanks were given to the officials for their crucial roles in the event’s success.
