Girona, Spain – Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal scored two goals in the first half to secure a convincing 4-1 victory against Girona on Sunday, maintaining their flawless start to the LaLiga season with five consecutive wins.
Yamal opened the scoring with goals in the 30th and 37th minutes, while Dani Olmo increased the lead shortly after the interval with a close-range strike. Pedri added a fourth goal with a tap-in in the 64th minute, and although Girona’s substitute Cristhian Stuani scored a consolation goal in the 80th minute, Barcelona’s Ferran Torres received a straight red card for a dangerous tackle just minutes later.
Hansi Flick’s Barcelona leads the LaLiga table with 15 points, four ahead of Real Madrid and Villarreal, while Girona sits in seventh place with seven points. Pedri remarked on the team’s focus for a strong season, emphasizing the coach’s insistence on starting well to create early distance from their rivals.
The match showcased Barcelona’s dominance as they consistently outperformed Girona and could have won by an even larger margin. Girona struggled against Barcelona’s intense high-press, leading to errors and opportunities for the visitors. An oversight from David Lopez allowed Yamal to steal the ball and score, leading to the team’s second goal just before halftime.
Barcelona continued to apply pressure, scoring again shortly after the break through Olmo. Despite several saves from Girona’s goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, he couldn’t prevent Pedri from scoring the final goal. Girona’s efforts were stifled throughout, and Barcelona’s commanding performance left little doubt about the outcome.
Looking ahead, Barcelona will shift their focus to the Champions League, preparing for an upcoming match against Monaco on Thursday.
