Injuries continue to plague Barcelona as midfielder Fermin Lopez has incurred a new muscular injury in his right thigh during training on Tuesday. The 21-year-old, who was part of Spain’s squad that triumphed at the European Championship in July and secured a gold medal with the Under-23s at the Paris 2024 Olympics, had previously suffered a left hamstring injury earlier this month.
Barcelona reports that Lopez is expected to be sidelined for approximately three weeks. He has made a notable contribution to the team, scoring 11 goals and providing one assist in 45 matches for the club.
The La Liga leaders also face absences due to injuries to new signing Dani Olmo, who will be out for up to five weeks with a right hamstring issue, as well as key midfielders Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, and Marc Bernal. Defenders Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen are also unavailable.
Under the guidance of new manager Hansi Flick, Barcelona has enjoyed a strong start to the season, winning all five of their opening matches and sitting at the top of the La Liga standings, four points ahead of defending champions Real Madrid. They are scheduled to face French club Monaco in their Champions League opener on Thursday.
