The Baravi Legion rugby team is set to make its debut at the Fiji Bitter Savusavu 7s today, marking a significant milestone for this young squad. Comprising emerging players from the coastal region of Nadroga, including the villages of Tagaqe, Namada, Vatukarasa, and Malevu, the team is motivated by their deep-seated love for rugby and a strong sense of community.

For many of these athletes, this tournament represents their first opportunity to experience high-level rugby, as they prepare to face off against seasoned competitors with established reputations. Despite the lack of big names in their lineup, team manager Iliesa Domonakibau expresses unwavering confidence in the team’s potential. He emphasizes that their heart, discipline, and ambition can overcome any perceived shortcomings in experience.

“This tournament is a chance for them to show their talents on the field,” Domonakibau stated, highlighting the importance of the competition not only in terms of results but also in providing direction for the youth. He stressed that the formation of the Baravi Legion aims to keep the boys focused on constructive pursuits, steering them away from negative influences such as drugs.

Team captain Saimoni Kunagone echoed this sentiment, expressing eagerness to showcase their abilities against more experienced teams like Army Green, LCW Lavena Reds, and Solove Rugby. Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Kunagone remains optimistic about the team’s potential to learn and grow through this experience.

As the three-day tournament kicks off at Ratu Ganilau Park, the Baravi Legion aims to leave a mark and set a positive example for the community. With their commitment to teamwork and strategy, they are geared to take on the challenges head-on, embodying the spirit of rugby that is so cherished in their region.
