The Frank Hilton Organization recently hosted its ninth annual Bara Battle fundraiser, aimed at providing support to individuals with disabilities. CEO Sureri Perera highlighted the significance of the event, stating that the funds raised are crucial for acquiring essential equipment, such as wheelchairs, and meeting the unique needs of patients. She shared success stories from their program, noting that some patients who previously could not move are now able to push their own wheelchairs or even walk.

Currently, the organization cares for between 13 to 15 individuals who face challenges related to hearing, speech, and movement. The patient demographic includes individuals from as young as six months to 45 years old, many of whom come from difficult backgrounds, including survivors of domestic violence. The event not only raises funds but also brings hope to families by significantly improving the quality of life for those in their care.

There is a holistic focus on community inclusion and support, which aligns with the Frank Hilton Organization’s broader mission to create better awareness and access to resources for individuals with disabilities. Previous similar initiatives, such as the Amazing Wheelbarrow Race, have successfully brought together various community participants to raise funds and support the cause. These ongoing efforts showcase the growing commitment and collaboration within the community to uplift individuals with disabilities in Fiji.

As demonstrated, the positive outcomes from such fundraising events reflect a wider movement towards inclusivity and support for vulnerable groups in society. With continued community engagement, it is hopeful that more individuals will have access to the services they need, furthering the mission of organizations like the Frank Hilton Organization.
