A former bank officer has been charged with computer-related forgery after allegedly generating and altering bank statements and a motor vehicle policy to facilitate a loan exceeding $280,000 granted to five clients. The charges were laid by the Criminal Investigation Department’s Public Sector and Commercial Crime Unit, with the alleged offenses occurring between April and September 2024. The accused faces six counts of Computer Related Forgery under the Cyber Crimes Act of 2021 and is scheduled to appear in the Nadi Magistrates Court.

These developments highlight ongoing efforts to combat financial fraud within banking and lending practices, underscoring the need for vigilance among consumers and financial institutions alike. Such proactive measures aim to create a safer financial environment, especially in light of a growing trend in fraudulent activities that have been reported in recent months, including similar cases where individuals have exploited digital platforms for deception.

As awareness rises, law enforcement’s commitment to addressing cybercrimes offers hope for improved consumer protection and accountability in financial dealings across the region.
