Ballantine Memorial School showcased a spirited display of athleticism as they faced off against Lami High School and CMF College at the HFC Bank Stadium during their combined inter-house event yesterday. This year’s event signifies a positive progression from last year’s competition, which only featured two schools, and is seen as a boost to the competitive culture among the institutions.
Christopher Waqa, the Head of Department for Physical Education, Music, and Art and Craft at Ballantine Memorial, expressed appreciation for the collaborative effort. “The competition brings out the best in the three schools,” he remarked, thanking the principals of each institution for their support. The addition of CMF College to the competition has created a more vibrant atmosphere, setting the stage for fruitful rivalries.
As Ballantine Memorial School gears up for the Suva Zone 1 competition, as well as the renowned annual Fiji Finals, strategic preparation is underway. Waqa emphasized the dedication of the girls’ athletics team, who have been rigorously training with morning and afternoon sessions followed by time trials to enhance their performance. The commitment to conditioning is evident as they aim to build upon last year’s successes, highlighting a few returning medallists from the Coke Games alongside new talent from the sub-juniors and juniors.
The school is focused on cultivating a balanced athletics squad that encompasses a variety of events, including sprints, middle and long-distance running, and throwing disciplines. This inclusive approach not only fosters individual talent but also promotes a strong team spirit, enhancing the overall competitive experience for the athletes involved. With a solid foundation and commitment, Ballantine Memorial School is looking forward to a successful season ahead.
