Kelerayani Nokelevu finds solace and distraction from her demanding career as a nurse through her passion for netball. A recent graduate of Fiji National University, she now works at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva. After long hours in a high-pressure environment, the netball court serves as her refuge.
In a stunning display of teamwork, Nokelevu played a pivotal role in leading her Tiki Vai team to a decisive 51–19 victory against Rovers in the Suva Netball Club Competition. Reflecting on her dual commitments, she shared, “With work, it’s hard to juggle work and netball but it takes passion and commitment. For me, playing netball on the court, it’s my stress relief area, so I come to release stress here.”
Her netball journey began during her primary school years, and her enthusiasm for the sport has only intensified since. As a proud native of Rewa and a former student of Gospel High School, she acknowledges the challenges of balancing her nursing career with her athletic pursuits. Since joining the Tiki Vai club in 2020, Nokelevu has evolved into a key player, significantly contributing to the team’s success, including a semi-final placement last season.
Similar to the journey of other young athletes in Fiji, Nokelevu’s determination mirrors that of her peers competing in the Suva Netball League. Athletes like Alisi Neisulu and Tokasa Tuisovivi are setting goals aimed at representing Fiji on global stages, showing a burgeoning talent pool that signifies a hopeful future for Fijian netball. The increasing competitiveness within local leagues underlines the importance of nurturing young talent, fostering both skill development and community spirit.
As Nokelevu continues to blend her professional life with her love for netball, her story is a testament to the resilience and dedication of young players—and serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes navigating similar paths.
