Business opportunities in our communities can support local entrepreneurs and assist villagers in their development, according to Tevita Loga, a 56-year-old owner of a bakery business named Three T’s, located in Naruwai, Dama, Bua.
The bakery has recently started operating, driven by a youthful entrepreneurial spirit, and is experiencing a positive response, particularly as local residents in Dama are showing enthusiasm for their products.
Loga mentioned that the bakery is the first of its kind in the Dama area and serves as a vital resource for nearby villages, which have limited access to baked goods and other supplies that are often obtained from distant locations.
“With our bakery, we aim to cater to the needs of approximately 130 households in the community, providing job opportunities for those commuting from Labasa and Nabouwalu, which are about 200 kilometers away,” he explained.
Over the last three weeks, the business has noticeably flourished as local purchases have increased, leading to a steady demand for baked goods such as cream buns, cheese buns, pizzas, and coconut rolls.
This initiative has proven beneficial in enhancing the local economy, as more villagers are becoming actively engaged in production and contributing to community development.
Loga indicated that business growth is closely tied to consumer demand. He reported that in just three weeks, there has been a marked improvement in sales.
He emphasized that if communities embrace similar entrepreneurial initiatives, it could significantly enhance their economic stability, urging people to foster a spirit of collaboration and engagement.
Loga also highlighted that various challenges persist, including occasional shortages of ingredients and logistical issues affecting the delivery of supplies.
Many local markets in Nabouwalu are reportedly in need of a variety of food products, highlighting further opportunities for growth in the region.
The government is actively encouraging small businesses, which play a crucial role in boosting local economies and providing job opportunities.
Loga’s appeal to local residents and youths is to stay focused on their work and to embrace positive developments as a means of ensuring a sustainable future.
