Women in Vadra Village, located in Moala, are celebrating the receipt of new baking equipment that is expected to significantly enhance the production capacity of their local bakery. This new equipment, valued at over $19,000, replaces their reliance on traditional baking methods, which had limited their output and efficiency.

The initiative is part of the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management’s Self-Help Programme. The program is designed to bolster rural livelihoods and foster sustainable development across communities in Fiji. Headman Sefanaia Cirivakarua of Vadra Village expressed gratitude for the government’s support, emphasizing how this new equipment will help the women’s group overcome existing challenges.

Minister for National Disaster Management and Rural Development, Sakiasi Ditoka, reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting rural communities, particularly those led by women. He highlighted that this partnership aims for inclusive growth throughout Fiji.

This investment aligns with previous government efforts to support rural enterprises in various areas. For instance, similar initiatives have successfully provided essential tools to schools and agricultural groups, showcasing the government’s holistic approach to fortifying rural economies. Such initiatives are paving the way for sustainable practices that empower local communities.

The introduction of the new baking equipment not only demonstrates the government’s dedication to fostering rural entrepreneurship but also points to a hopeful future where communities can thrive independently, enhancing both the local economy and overall food security.
