Former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has been granted an early release today, in accordance with Section 46 (3) of the Corrections Act.
The Fiji Corrections Service announced that this decision comes after a thorough review of Bainimarama’s application, which was assessed under the applicable legal provisions that guide early release and the process of supervised reintegration.
Section 46 (3) of the Corrections Act allows for inmates to be released early contingent upon meeting specific criteria that prioritize community safety and support for the inmate’s reintegration back into society. The service confirmed that Bainimarama’s eligibility was meticulously evaluated, encompassing criteria for release and the supervisory arrangements in place per established guidelines.
Moving forward, the Fiji Corrections Service will continue to monitor Bainimarama’s reintegrative process to ensure compliance with all release conditions.
