A 35-year-old man, Sairusi Ceinaturaga, appeared in court facing serious charges related to the death of his one-year-old daughter. His bail hearing is scheduled for February 26, as confirmed by Suva judge Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull. Ceinaturaga faces charges of murder, assault, and acting with intent to cause grievous harm.

The accusations state that during an incident last year, Ceinaturaga allegedly assaulted his partner, a 27-year-old woman, while she was preparing a meal, and subsequently inflicted fatal injuries on his young daughter using an aluminum cooking spoon. It is also reported that he assaulted his three-year-old son by hitting his head against a wall. Police investigations revealed a pattern of abusive behavior from the accused, leading the State prosecutor to indicate that the Director of Public Prosecutions will oppose any application for bail.

Currently, Ceinaturaga remains in custody pending the outcome of the bail hearing. This case highlights ongoing concerns regarding domestic abuse and the protection of vulnerable individuals, particularly children, in such situations.

With increased awareness about domestic violence, it is crucial for communities to support victims and encourage reporting of such incidents to prevent further tragedies.
