The Suva Magistrates Court has granted bail to three individuals facing serious charges related to drug possession and assault. The accused, Lemeki Baleiwai, 29, Maciua Jiuta, 27, and Asaeli Sususewa, 23, appeared before Resident Magistrate Krishnan Prasad. The case is currently awaiting the details of their sureties, prompting a temporary recess in the proceedings.

Baleiwai faces charges for the possession of illicit drugs, while Jiuta and Sususewa are charged with serious assault. As part of their bail conditions, all three are required to report to the Lami Police Station on the last Friday of each month and are prohibited from contacting prosecution witnesses. Each was granted non-cash bail set at $300 and instructed to maintain a specified fixed address. Additionally, they must not engage in any further criminal activity.

The case has been adjourned and will be revisited on December 2 at 9:30 am.

This situation highlights the judicial system’s efforts to balance the rights of the accused with the need to uphold the law and community safety. While the charges are serious, the grant of bail and specific conditions signify an opportunity for the accused to prepare their defense while still being monitored by law enforcement. The upcoming court date provides a chance for all involved to clarify the circumstances of the case, ensuring a fair legal process.
