A man charged with murder and two counts of assault has been granted bail by the High Court in Suva. Sairusi Senilawalawa received his bail approval on Monday from Justice Thushara Rajasinghe after his initial release on August 1 was postponed due to complications in securing the necessary sureties.
During the court session, Senilawalawa’s attorney, Karen Boseiwaqa, informed the judge that his two elder brothers, who had agreed to act as sureties, were now available to complete the required paperwork. Justice Rajasinghe reassessed their eligibility and granted bail on the same terms previously set.
As per the bail conditions, Senilawalawa will live with one of his brothers in Nasinu, while the complainant, his former partner, will be residing in Nakasi. He faces allegations of killing 40-year-old Ovasisi Salusalu during a domestic disagreement at Sakoca Settlement on April 21, where Salusalu reportedly attempted to intervene in a dispute between Senilawalawa and his partner.
The trial is set to take place from November 3 to November 21 next year, and the case will be addressed again on March 17 for further discussions.
This case highlights the complexities of domestic disputes and the far-reaching consequences they can have on individuals and families involved. While the legal process continues, it serves as a reminder of the importance of conflict resolution and open communication in personal relationships.
