A father of two has been charged with raping his 33-year-old niece during a drinking session, and has been granted a non-cash bail bond of $500. The case was heard by Justice Thushara Rajasinghe in Suva, where the accused, a married man in his fifties, appeared before the court.

State lawyer Katarina Dugan indicated that there were no objections to granting bail, having completed the necessary surety checks. Justice Rajasinghe has ordered the prosecution to provide a Domestic Violence Restraining Order by November 28 to ensure safety for both the complainant and the accused. The prosecution plans to present three witnesses, including the complainant and the investigating officer, while the defense will only call the accused to testify. A hearing date has been scheduled for April 11 of next year.
