Bail Granted to Arson Suspect: Tikoicina’s Next Moves Unfold

The High Court has granted bail to Emosi Tikoicina, who is accused of setting fire to the Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute in Nausori. The decision was made this afternoon by High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe.

As part of the bail conditions, Tikoicina must adhere to strict guidelines, including not interfering with prosecution witnesses and refraining from any further offenses while released on bail. Additionally, he is prohibited from entering the Technical Institute.

During the proceedings, State Counsel Zenith Zunaid revealed that Tikoicina had confessed to a friend, who is a student at the institute. Tikoicina had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges in May.

He faces one count of Arson under section 362 (a) of the Crimes Act 2009, with allegations stating that on April 7, 2024, he intentionally and unlawfully set fire to the Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute building and its contents.

The case has been adjourned until September 30 for further mention.
