The High Court has granted bail to Emosi Tikoicina, who is accused of setting fire to the Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute located in Navuso, Nausori. The case was addressed by High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe this afternoon.
Justice Rajasinghe imposed strict bail conditions on the accused. Tikoicina is prohibited from interfering with prosecution witnesses and is required to refrain from committing any further offenses while on bail. Additionally, he is not allowed to enter the Technical Institute premises.
State Counsel Zenith Zunaid informed the Court that Tikoicina allegedly confessed to the act to a friend who is also a student at the Institute. In May, Tikoicina entered a plea of not guilty.
He faces one count of Arson, as defined by section 362 (a) of the Crimes Act 2009. It is claimed that on April 7, 2024, in Nausori’s Eastern Division, Tikoicina willfully and unlawfully set fire to the building of the Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute and its associated assets.
The case has been postponed until September 30 for further mention.
