Bail Granted to Alleged Arsonist Amid Strict Conditions

The High Court has approved bail for Emosi Tikoicina, who is accused of setting fire to the Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute located in Navuso, Nausori. The case was examined this afternoon by High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe.

Judge Rajasinghe imposed strict bail conditions on Tikoicina, which include prohibitions against interfering with witnesses in the prosecution and committing further offenses while on bail. Additionally, Tikoicina is forbidden from entering the Technical Institute’s premises.

State Counsel Zenith Zunaid informed the court that the accused had reportedly confessed to a friend, who is also a student at the institute. Tikoicina entered a not guilty plea in May.

He faces a charge of Arson, as specified under section 362 (a) of the Crimes Act 2009. The allegations state that on April 7, 2024, in Nausori, Tikoicina intentionally and unlawfully set fire to the building of the Navuso Agricultural Technical Institute and its contents.

The case has been scheduled for mention on September 30.
