The Suva Magistrates Court has extended the bail of Thakor Punja, who faces three charges of unlawful possession of illicit drugs. A Pre-Trial Conference has been scheduled for February 19, 2025.
Punja is accused of possessing 0.84 grams of methamphetamine, 5.447 grams of cocaine, and 6.6 grams of marijuana. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Resident-Magistrate Yogesh Prasad allowed lead defence attorney Iqbal Khan time to travel to Australia for necessary eye surgery. Counsel Samuela Heritage, representing Punja in Khan’s absence, requested that the court reschedule the matter to allow for the attorney’s surgery. The court agreed to this request.
In addition, the Police Prosecution has provided full disclosures to the defence, which was confirmed by counsel Heritage.
