Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva delivered a dominant performance against Caroline Dolehide, winning 6-2, 6-0. Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch made a comeback to defeat Hungary’s Anna Bondar 6-7 (4), 7-6 (6), 6-4. Chinese player Xiyu Wang easily overcame Russia’s Kamilla Rakhimova with a score of 6-2, 6-0, while Russia’s Mirra Andreeva also won against Varvara Lepchenko with the same scoreline.
Before the event began, two top seeds withdrew: No. 1 Jasmine Paolini of Italy pulled out due to a left foot injury, and No. 3 Emma Navarro withdrew because of illness.
In the Japan Open, eighth-seeded Elisabetta Cocciaretto from Italy took over three hours to secure a hard-fought victory against French qualifier Jessika Ponchet, finishing 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (3) in the first round in Osaka. Cocciaretto saved 14 out of 20 break points and converted six out of her 15 opportunities, advancing to face Japan’s Aoi Ito in the next round, who defeated Sofia Kenin 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.
Suzan Lamens from the Netherlands eliminated No. 6 seed Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria, winning convincingly 6-1, 6-2. Lamens will next encounter Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti, who defeated Spain’s Cristina Bucsa 6-3, 6-4. McCartney Kessler enjoyed a successful outing, saving seven of eight break points in her match against Japan’s Ena Shibahara, winning 6-4, 6-1. Denmark’s Clara Tauson showcased her strong serve with 10 aces in a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Katie Volynets.
