Badminton Fiji is set to launch a new initiative aimed at high school students this year, aiming to enhance the development of badminton throughout the country. The program, as announced by Secretary Abel Caine, will feature competitions tailored for different age groups and will depend heavily on the support of major schools that possess the necessary facilities for competitive play.

Caine stressed the importance of collaboration with these schools to establish badminton teams while also encouraging them to allow other schools access to their training facilities. This sharing of resources is viewed as a way to foster the sport at the grassroots level and ensure wider participation.

With an eye on the upcoming 2032 Olympic Games in Australia, this initiative is designed to create a structured pathway for identifying and cultivating new talent. Caine emphasized the importance of developing a robust talent pool as Badminton Fiji prepares for future international competitions. “We’ve got the equipment, we’ve got the coaches, and we’ve got the time for you. Find a badminton-dedicated teacher, allow other schools to share your school premises, and allow some clubs to use these venues after hours, and that way, badminton will have a bright future,” he remarked.

Further details regarding the program will be revealed following Badminton Fiji’s Annual General Meeting scheduled for next Saturday. The initiative reflects a positive step forward for the sport in Fiji, showcasing a commitment to youth engagement and long-term growth in badminton’s presence on both local and international stages.
