The Fiji Police Force has stepped up its presence around schools and transit points to enhance safety for students as the new school term begins. Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu announced that officers will be stationed near school zones and public transport areas to support students, particularly during busy morning and afternoon periods.
Tudravu emphasized the importance of parents’ involvement in ensuring their children’s safety, urging them to discuss safe practices for traveling to and from school. “We will be visible in all areas as part of our normal patrols to support our back-to-school children, but I encourage parents to actively look after our children,” he stated.
The police are particularly focused on monitoring locations where students gather before and after school, including bus stops, parks, and entertainment venues. With Term Two underway, the police force is asking the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior to ensure a safer environment for students.
This proactive approach aligns with the ongoing efforts of the Fiji Police Force to maintain public safety, which has previously involved enhanced operations during holiday seasons, emphasizing community cooperation. The message remains clear: community vigilance, combined with police presence, is paramount for creating secure spaces for children and alleviating safety concerns.
In recent months, similar initiatives have highlighted the vital role of parents and guardians in guiding youth behavior and ensuring safety during unpredictable conditions, such as the cyclone season. The collaborative efforts of law enforcement and families foster a culture of awareness, responsibility, and support, promising a safer atmosphere for students and the community as a whole.
Through these initiatives, there’s hope that with collective action, students will have a secure environment to thrive in as they return to school, bolstering community cohesion and safety.
