Applications for the $200 back-to-school assistance for students are currently being processed, according to Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad. He reported that the majority of applications have already been handled.

“The applications are being processed,” Prof. Prasad stated. “I have been informed that most of it is complete.”

To ensure that as many eligible school children as possible have the opportunity to apply, the government extended the application timeline. The eligibility criteria includes a household income of less than $50,000.

The minister highlighted that the Coalition Government has provided support to approximately 200,000 students annually, costing around $130 million. “In 2023, more than 200,000 students received assistance, and this trend will continue into 2025,” he said.

He emphasized the effectiveness of the program, noting the timeliness of the assistance during the back-to-school season and its vital role in helping families provide essential items such as books, bags, shoes, and sandals for their children.

This initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting education and easing the financial burden on families as they prepare for the new school year, a time that can be particularly challenging for many.

In summary, the $200 back-to-school assistance program is progressing well, with financial aid set to positively impact the lives of numerous students and their families, fostering readiness for the new academic term.
