More than 204,872 applications have been submitted for the Government’s $200 Back-to-School Assistance program for the upcoming 2026 school year. Payments commenced on Friday afternoon and will carry on through the weekend.

The Ministry of Finance confirmed that eligible parents and guardians are now receiving the assistance following a thorough vetting and verification process. The initial batch will benefit around 185,000 students, with a total payout estimated at approximately $37 million. Students transitioning from Year 12 to Year 13 will receive their payments once their enrollment for the 2026 academic year is confirmed.

However, approximately 10,000 applications are still undergoing verification due to incomplete or incorrect information. To address any outstanding issues, the Ministry of Education will collaborate with schools to ensure that every eligible child receives the $200 aid.

Parents and guardians who do not see a payment by next Monday are encouraged to reach out for support through the Ministry of Education’s District Offices or can contact the Help Desk at Waisomo House. They may also use the provided helpdesk numbers: 3220551, 3314477, 9980079, or 9986069 for assistance.

The Ministry of Finance has called on parents and guardians to judiciously use the assistance to meet their children’s educational needs, noting that government agencies will be monitoring businesses to guard against price gouging and other unfair practices. This initiative reflects a commitment to supporting families as they prepare for the school year, fostering a positive educational environment for all students.
