The Baby Pearls, Fiji’s under-21 netball team, are gearing up for an important invitational tournament as they prepare for the 2025 Netball World Youth Cup in Gibraltar. From the 7th to the 11th of next month, they’ll host the Blaze Netball 21&U and New South Wales Fijian 21&U teams at Suva’s Vodafone Arena, promising a week of fast-paced action.
This tournament not only allows young athletes to showcase their skills but also serves as a vital platform for the Baby Pearls to enhance their strategies, strengthen team dynamics, and build cohesion in a competitive environment. Head coach Simone Nalatu emphasized the tournament’s significance, calling it an invaluable opportunity for players to fine-tune their skills ahead of the global competition. “This is a key opportunity to refine strategies and bring the squad together as we continue our build-up to Gibraltar,” she noted.
The Baby Pearls will feature two sides—Kacau and Kikau—selected from a 27-member extended squad that includes both local and overseas-based players committed to the national program. The support from the Fiji National Sports Commission and the PacificAusSports Partnership has been instrumental in making this tournament possible.
As the Baby Pearls enjoy the home-court advantage, they’re eager to rise to the challenge, which also aligns with their previous preparations for competitive matches like the Ruby North Series and their recent training camps. These efforts demonstrate the team’s growth and commitment to excellence as they look to inspire the next generation of netball players in Fiji.
With this focused approach and the right support, there is a hopeful outlook for the Baby Pearls as they aim to leave a lasting impression on the international netball scene.
