Extra Supermarket Labasa’s captain, Simiome Tamanisau, is feeling the weight of expectations as his team readies for the first leg of the Pillay Garments Champion v Champion series this Saturday at Lawaqa Park. While playing at home is advantageous, Tamanisau acknowledges that it also brings added pressure to perform in front of their fans.
“Playing on home ground will certainly put pressure on us to perform well. We know the fans will be expecting a good result, but the boys are preparing well for the challenge ahead,” Tamanisau stated. He highlighted that Labasa’s rivals, Rewa, are a strong and professional team with aspirations to represent Fiji in the upcoming 2025 OFC Men’s Championship League.
Despite the challenges posed by Rewa, Tamanisau expressed his confidence in his team’s readiness. “We will give Rewa a good run on Saturday and aim to secure a positive result,” he said.
As Labasa gears up for the match, they are also anticipating the arrival of new players during the transfer window, which could enhance their squad further for the tournament. The prize for the winner of the two-match series is $5000, while the runner-up will receive $2500 in processing money.
This series presents an exciting opportunity for Labasa to showcase their talent and resilience on home ground, and the squad’s preparation indicates a positive outlook for the challenging matches ahead.
