Two brothers are mourning the tragic loss of their mother, Anandi Devi, who died following a knife attack in Tabataba, Ba. The incident, which police suspect was committed by an individual under the influence of drugs, occurred early on Saturday morning, December 6, 2025.
Anandi was brutally stabbed multiple times at her home at around 7:30 a.m., sustaining severe injuries to her neck and hands. Her son, Praneel Kumar, discovered her lying motionless in a pool of blood and promptly called his brother, Ritu Ritesh Ram, who was away at the time, busy repairing his vehicle in Ba Town.
Upon learning of the incident, Mr. Ram rushed back home and alerted the police, who transported Anandi to Lautoka Hospital. She remained in the intensive care unit until she succumbed to her injuries the following Friday at 2 p.m.
Reflecting on his final moments with his mother, Mr. Ram expressed deep sorrow, noting that she could not speak but tears streamed down her face. He described the harrowing sight of his mother’s injuries, stating that despite efforts from medical staff, the severity of the wounds on her neck ultimately proved fatal.
“This has never happened in our community before, and we cannot believe that this would happen to our mother,” Mr. Ram said, expressing his grief and disbelief over the violent incident.
The suspected attacker remains in police custody as authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking event. The brothers, devastated by the loss, are trying to come to terms with the violent act that has shaken their community.
