Etonia Dogalau’s impressive double helped Ba secure a spot in the final four of the Extra Supermarket Futsal Inter-District Championship, following a thrilling 2-1 victory over the reigning champions, Suva, at the Vodafone Arena today.
Although Suva came into the match with confidence after winning their previous games against Nasinu and Savusavu, Ba demonstrated their resilience and competitive spirit. The match began with an explosive start, as Dogalau found the net just two minutes in, catching Suva’s defense off guard.
The Ba captain, Ravinesh Anand Singh, showcased his skills with a remarkable play close to halftime, sending a long clearance that Dogalau skillfully turned into a perfect header past Suva’s defender, Kitione Baleloa. This moment was hailed as a potential contender for the goal of the tournament.
In the second half, Suva intensified their offensive efforts, with Nikil Chand leading the charge. Suva narrowed the gap with a goal from Justin Kumar less than ten minutes before the end, setting the stage for a tense finish. Despite deploying all their players forward in the closing moments, Suva was repeatedly thwarted by Ba’s strong defense, anchored by Manasa Nawakula and Penisoni Tirau, as well as the exceptional keeping of Singh.
Ultimately, Ba finished as runners-up in Group B, while Suva, despite their loss, showed they could fight back and remain formidable opponents. This exciting victory serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of sports, where underdogs can shine brightly against established champions.
As the tournament progresses, there is much anticipation for how Ba will perform in the semifinals and whether Dogalau can maintain this outstanding form. The excitement surrounding the championship continues to grow, offering plenty of thrilling moments for fans.
