Etonia Dogalau’s outstanding double helped Ba secure a spot in the final four by defeating the reigning champions, Suva, with a score of 2-1 during their final Group match of the Extra Supermarket Futsal Inter-District Championship at the Vodafone Arena.
Despite Suva entering the match with confidence following victories over Nasinu and Savusavu, Ba proved their resilience and determination early on. Within just two minutes, Dogalau found the back of the net, catching Suva’s defense off guard. He later scored a spectacular goal just before halftime, utilizing a perfectly timed header after a long clearance by Ba’s captain and goalkeeper, Ravinesh Anand Singh.
In the second half, Suva rallied with multiple offensive attempts, showcasing their fighting spirit, especially through player Nikil Chand. They managed to narrow the gap with a goal from Justin Kumar, leaving the score at 2-1 with less than 10 minutes left on the clock.
Despite Suva’s late surge, characterized by pushing all their players forward, Ba’s defense, led by Manasa Nawakula and Penisoni Tirau, effectively thwarted their efforts. Even with time ticking away, Ba’s goalkeeper Singh remained resolute, preserving their lead and securing Ba’s runner-up position in Group B.
Ba now looks forward to the semifinals, demonstrating that they are a force to be reckoned with, and fans can anticipate an exciting journey ahead in the tournament.
This match highlights the unpredictability of sports, where the underdog can emerge victorious, creating thrilling narratives for fans and players alike. It’s a reminder that determination and teamwork can prevail against seemingly insurmountable odds.
