BA Rugby Union is preparing to make an impactful debut at the inaugural Sun Bell Tuna Drua 10s competition this Friday, taking place at Prince Charles Park in Nadi. Head coach Ben Tora has expressed his enthusiasm for this significant opportunity, emphasizing that it allows Ba Rugby to showcase their talent on a larger stage.

Tora highlighted the event as a valuable chance for promising players to experience a higher level of rugby. “The Drua 10s is a wonderful chance for our guys to gain exposure to a more intense style of play,” he noted. The team will be facing off against professional players, which Tora believes will serve as an enriching experience for the Ba squad.

Despite recognizing the resource and training disparities between Ba Rugby and the Fijian Drua, Tora views these challenges as sources of motivation. The professional resources available to the Drua—such as advanced training equipment and specialist coaching—create a unique opportunity for the Ba players to rise to the challenge.

The Ba Rugby team consists of young talents hailing from the surrounding highlands and villages. Tora mentioned the logistical challenges faced in training, particularly for players like fly-half Namelo from Navala Village, who face difficulties in accessing training venues, especially during adverse weather conditions.

Tora assured supporters that the team will deliver a fast-paced and agile style of play, mentioning, “We may not have the size, but we make up for it with speed and mobility.” The invitation to participate in the Drua 10s is seen as a blessing and a crucial step for the team’s growth and development.

In summary, for Ba Rugby, this tournament represents an invaluable growth opportunity, showcasing not just their grit but also the rich talent coming from the region. It sets a hopeful precedent for the players and the team as they aspire to overcome challenges and make a name for themselves in the rugby community.

This competition not only gives them a chance to compete but also fosters community pride and optimism for the future of rugby in the area.
