The Ba Rugby Union has announced the appointment of Ben Tora as the new head coach for the forthcoming domestic competition. This decision was made public by Gabby Kautoga, the secretary of the Ba Rugby Union, who confirmed the news yesterday.

Tora steps into this position following the transition of Vilimoni Delasau, a former star winger for the Flying Fijians, who has taken on the role of Ba Rugby ambassador. Although Delasau will continue to support the team, his ability to fully participate is hindered due to ongoing issues with previous injuries.

Kautoga mentioned that Tora was selected after a thorough interview process. Additionally, Waisale Tikomailepanoni has been named the new head coach for the Ba women’s rugby team, while Josaia Tuwai will continue to lead the Ba Under-20 squad.

In terms of organizational development, Kautoga provided insights into the plans discussed during last Saturday’s Special General Meeting. The Ba Rugby Union is preparing a contingency plan in case the Fiji Rugby Union changes the Skipper Cup competition schedule to August next year. Kautoga pointed out areas that need improvement within the club infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of enhancing administrative functions, including team lists, player registrations, and minimizing delays on game days.

Looking ahead, Kautoga expressed optimism about the growth of the club, projecting an increase in the number of participating clubs from 32 to 40 next year. He acknowledged the achievements made but stressed the necessity for further improvements to reach their three-year vision. The primary goal for the upcoming season is to secure a place in the top five of the Skipper Cup competition and strive for the Farebrother Trophy, building upon their success from the previous year, where they achieved a top-eight finish and avoided relegation.

This new leadership under Tora and the strategic plans outlined demonstrate the Ba Rugby Union’s commitment to continuous improvement and competitive excellence in the future.

In summary, the Ba Rugby Union is making strides with new leadership and aspirations for growth, aiming for top performance and enhanced club management in the coming season, promising an exciting future for its teams.
