The Ba Rugby Union has appointed Ben Tora as its new head coach for the upcoming domestic competition, as confirmed by union secretary Gabby Kautoga. Tora succeeds Vilimoni Delasau, a former Flying Fijian star who has transitioned to the role of Ba Rugby ambassador due to lingering injuries that prevent him from fully participating in coaching. However, Delasau will continue to support the team in his new capacity.
Kautoga explained that Tora was selected following a thorough interview and evaluation process. Additionally, Waisale Tikomailepanoni has been named the head coach for the Ba women’s rugby team, while Josaia Tuwai continues as the head coach for the Ba Under-20 team.
During a recent Special General Meeting, Kautoga outlined plans for improving club performance, including a backup strategy in case the Fiji Rugby Union adjusts the Skipper Cup competition schedule for August next year. He mentioned that the number of clubs will increase from 32 to 40 for the upcoming season, emphasizing the importance of enhancing administrative functions such as team listings and registrations.
Kautoga acknowledged the progress made in the past year, highlighting the team’s objective to maintain their position in the Skipper Cup and aim for a top five finish. This ambitious goal, along with the goal to compete for the Farebrother Trophy, reflects the growing aspirations and commitment of the Ba Rugby Union.
The changes in coaching staff and the focus on administration and club growth are promising signs for the future of Ba Rugby, suggesting a commitment to continuous improvement and competitiveness in the sport.
In summary, Ben Tora’s appointment marks a new chapter for the Ba Rugby Union as it seeks to build on previous successes and enhance its presence in Fijian rugby. With clear objectives in place, the union is poised for a promising season ahead.
