Ba Rugby Union U20 Sparks Bright Future as Semi-Finals Beckon

The Ba Rugby Union’s senior men’s team is poised for a bright future, thanks in part to the promising performance of its under-20 team, which has shown significant growth in provincial rugby, particularly within the Skipper Cup. Union secretary Gabby Kautoga expressed confidence in the team’s trajectory following their thrilling 20-15 victory over Macuata in the U20 Skipper Cup quarter-finals held at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka last Saturday.

Kautoga remarked on the team’s achievement, stating, “Yes, our under-20s are going up to the semi-final and that is the picture of Ba Rugby in two to three years time… We are secure then because the under-20s have secured a spot in the semi-finals.” This year alone, the U20 team has recorded an impressive eight wins alongside two losses leading up to the quarter-finals, a reflection of the development efforts paying off.

With commendable performances on the field, including tries from key players, Kautoga praised the team’s heart and commitment during the match, attributing their success to robust grassroots development. He expressed gratitude towards the sponsors and the local community, who demonstrated unwavering support, traveling from the highlands early in the morning to cheer for their teams.

Looking ahead, the Ba U20 squad is set to face Nadi at Bidesi Park in Suva, igniting hopes for an even deeper run in the tournament. Kautoga encouraged fans to believe in the Ba team, signaling optimism about the senior men’s side recovering from their quarter-final loss to Naitasiri.

This current momentum reflects a broader trend of growth within the Ba Rugby Union, echoing sentiments from recent discussions around the organization’s focus on fostering young talent and improving performance. As the community backs its teams, the atmosphere around Ba Rugby is filled with enthusiasm, offering a hopeful glimpse into the future of both the under-20 side and the senior men’s team as they strive for success in upcoming competitions.
