BA Rugby Union is preparing to showcase its skills at the inaugural Sun Bell Tuna Drua 10s competition, taking place this Friday at Prince Charles Park in Nadi. Head coach Ben Tora expressed his enthusiasm for this opportunity, viewing it as a crucial moment for the team to demonstrate Ba’s rugby talent on a broader scale.

Tora noted the significance of participating in the Drua 10s, stating, “This event is a remarkable opportunity for our aspiring players to experience a higher level of rugby and intensity.” He believes that competing against professional players will be a valuable learning experience for the Ba team.

Despite recognizing the disparity in resources and training facilities between Ba Rugby and the Fijian Drua, Tora sees this as a source of motivation for his players. “The Fijian Drua have the benefits of professional training equipment and specialist coaches. However, this challenge is exciting for our players, who are eager to give their best,” he added.

The Ba Rugby team consists of talented young individuals from highland regions and nearby villages. Tora highlighted the hurdles that players face in getting to training, particularly in adverse weather conditions. He mentioned that “Our fly-half, Namelo from Navala Village, is one to watch. Yet, getting players from the highlands to our training venue is challenging due to flooding and transportation issues when it rains. Nevertheless, their commitment has been commendable.”

Tora expected a fast and agile playing style from his team, emphasizing that while they may not possess bulk, they compensate with speed and agility. “We feel genuinely honored to participate in this competition,” he said.

For Ba Rugby, the Drua 10s is not just a tournament but a vital opportunity for growth and development in the sport.

This participation in the Drua 10s represents a promising step forward for Ba Rugby, embodying the spirit of resilience and dedication found in grassroots sports. With the right support and opportunities, players from these regions can shine on larger platforms, bringing attention to their incredible potential and the rich talent in Fijian rugby.
