BA Rugby Union is gearing up to participate in the inaugural Sun Bell Tuna Drua 10s competition this Friday at Prince Charles Park in Nadi. Head coach Ben Tora expressed enthusiasm for this event, viewing it as a significant opportunity to highlight Ba’s rugby talents on a broader platform.

Tora remarked, “The Drua 10s presents a wonderful chance for our promising players to experience a higher level of rugby and intensity.” Competing against professional athletes will be invaluable for the Ba team, allowing them to learn and grow.

While Tora recognizes the disparity in resources and training facilities between Ba Rugby and the Fijian Drua, he believes this challenge will motivate his players. “The Fijian Drua have professional training equipment and specialist coaches, but this challenge inspires our players, and they’re eager to rise to the occasion,” Tora noted.

The Ba Rugby squad consists of young talents hailing from highland communities and villages near Ba Town. Tora acknowledged the difficulties faced by his players in attending training sessions, especially when weather conditions, like flooding rivers, hamper transportation. Yet he remains impressed by their dedication.

“Namelo, our fly-half from Navala Village, is one to keep an eye on. Although getting players from the highlands to Vinod Patel Park can be challenging, their commitment is remarkable,” he stated.

Tora conveyed that spectators should expect a dynamic backline complemented by agile forwards. “We may not have the physical size of some teams, but we compensate for it with speed and mobility. We feel truly blessed to be part of this competition,” he added.

For Ba Rugby, the Drua 10s represents not just a tournament but also a crucial stepping-stone for growth and development within the team.

This participation not only highlights the potential of local talent but also fosters a sense of community and resilience, showcasing the commitment of young athletes despite challenges. It’s a moment of pride as Ba Rugby takes this significant step forward, bringing hope to aspiring players and fans alike.
