BA Rugby Union is gearing up to make a significant impact at the inaugural Sun Bell Tuna Drua 10s competition, scheduled for this Friday at Prince Charles Park in Nadi. Head coach Ben Tora expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity, labeling it a crucial moment for the team and an ideal chance to showcase the rugby talent from Ba on a broader platform.

According to Tora, “The Drua 10s offers our promising players a valuable experience to compete at a higher intensity of rugby.” He emphasized that going head-to-head with professional players will be an enriching experience for the team.

While Tora acknowledged the disparity in resources and training facilities when comparing Ba Rugby to the Fijian Drua, he views this discrepancy as a source of motivation rather than a setback. “The Fijian Drua have the upper hand with professional training environments, advanced equipment, and specialized coaching. Despite this, our players are excited and committed to giving their best effort,” he explained.

The Ba Rugby team consists of young talents from the highlands and surrounding villages. Tora noted the logistical challenges players face in attending training sessions, particularly for a standout fly-half from Navala Village. “Getting players from the highlands to Vinod Patel Park can be difficult—rain often causes rivers to flood, limiting transportation. Regardless, their dedication and spirit have been remarkable,” he shared.

Tora also assured fans that they can anticipate a dynamic performance characterized by a fast and agile backline, bolstered by mobile forwards. “We may not have the size, but we compensate with speed and agility. We are truly grateful for the invitation to participate in this competition,” he stated.

For Ba Rugby, the Drua 10s represents more than a competitive challenge; it serves as a vital platform for the growth and development of the team.

This competition not only offers an opportunity for these young athletes to shine but could also pave the way for future successes for Ba Rugby. The determination and heart displayed by these players highlight the potential they possess, fostering hope for the evolution of rugby in their community.
